Solitary Bliss
From San Pedro de Atacama, in the North of Chile three other backpackers and I got on a 4x4. Our driver and guide took us through the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen all the way up to the biggest salt flat on earth. It’s a surreal place in the middle of nowhere. We got up really early to see the sunrise there. At some parts there was a thin layer of water and you had a perfect reflection - it really was like a mirror. Then we went through the entire empty space until we saw that island coming up on the horizon. Turns out there is an island full of cacti in the middle of this ocean of salt.
